I had my first wedding dress comission way back in August, but never managed to track down photos from it. Fortunately, thanks to the joy that is Facebook, I now have some. And yes, the photographer has a thing for close ups and detail shots.

Well the trauma and stress are finally over. It was a mad rush at the end but we made it, I am now officially Mrs Ginevra Kate Wilkinson. (God I wonder how long it will take me to get used to that!) I have a bad back and bruise on the middle finger of my right hand from hand stitching the bias and flossing on four corsets, and despite sleeping til midday today I am still shatterd. Oh, and my left bicep aches from holding up that humongous bouquet for an hour for photos.

I didn't finish them until two hours before the wedding, was late for the ceremony, and forgot the rings, which later turned up in my rucksack in the back of my mum's car parked next to the register office  =(slaps forehead in disgrace)=. So I now have two wedding rings hehe. Well, it was a good night apart from the mishaps along the way, although I have to say it doesn't feel that different yet. That's what comes of living together for ages first I guess. I have decided to have a sewing break for a little while, let my back ease up. Although I'm not too sure how long that will last, I have two half finished projects on the go still and I know damn well I'll get bored in the space of a day, so no doubt I'll be back to the grindstone by the start of this week. Well...I've done nothing but sew for he last three weeks, I'd be lost if I didn't sew. How would pass my days?

I will be posting pics to various comms as soon as I gather them all together. We had several of the family members taking photos so doubtless we'll end up with stacks of the things. I also need to take some detail shots etc of my dress and the girls' corsets (if I can borrow them back lol) to post. Sadly my camera was lent out during the finishing stages of construction so I won't have progress shots to post on dressdiaries, but hey.

How the hell do I do it?! I put th egrommets in the back of my wedding corset, tried it on. I've been a little dubious for some time but now I know- it's too damn small. By about 4 inches. I tried it on and thought hang on, the sides are supposed to be closer together than that. I could get it to a 5 inch gap and then it just got painful. So... lets start from scratch. The only other thing I can think to do is take the back panels off and replace them with some that are bigger, but it would sit funny then. Replacing the back 2 panels each side would be feasable, but more difficult, but would be a bit better as the extra would be over a greater area and would look less strange. Also the back is too low. It all seemed ok in the mock up but when I laced it in it ends at a really uncomfortable place and needs to be about 2-3inches higher. God I just want to start again. Sadly I can't, as I have less than a week left til the wedding, only have about 1/4 metre of twill left, and I would just have a nervous breakdown i think. All that work for nothing. Shoot me please! Put me out of my misery!!!

Well the bull denim I ordered arrived, not too sure on it for tightlacing but it will do for tasha'a, she's not having it very small anymore. Gemma said she'd rung up the fabric rep and shouted so it should be in by monday, she's gonna ring me, and I made my handbag. Well, it's pieced together. I added the strap but forgot to turn under the edge I sewed it to, so that will have to be satin stitched over. Then I attached the lining, then thought I'd put the label in the wrong place so picked it out, then turned the lining inside and realised I'd sewn it in the wrong way round, so the label was in the right place all along and I had to unpick it. And I can't fing my fraycheck so its dropping bits all over me and pulling out of seams grrr. So I decided to leave it for tonight, go back to it in the morning, and see if I have more luck then. So tomorrow I'll also do a small bit of embroidery on the front so it matches my corset, and for entertainment sake I'm going to make a shirt out of some pretty black crinkly cotton I bought with coloured embroidered bits on.

This is so annoying, I have so much that needs doing and can't do any of it.

Well, I have run out of corset fabric, and flat steel boning, my skirt fabric still hasn't arrived, and I can't decide whether or not to do the rest of the embroidery on the front of my corset. It took ages just to do the strips covering the busk, never mind the sections over the bust. And I despise hand sewing, especially when it has beads at the end that won't fit over the needle grrr. And I can't find the dress net I bought to stuff the bustle. I can't flamin well do anything!!!

I suppose I can always make my handbag. I was gonna use some of the silk offcuts but I could do it in velvet. I need more velvet in the outfit I think, there's only the corset so far. I'm making the shrug out of the silk with black georgette sleeves, so yes, I think I shall make the bag in velvet. Yay! something to do. It's just so frustrating having so much to do and not the stuff to do it with. I'm gonna use my last bit of twill for Leanne's I think, and try to squeeze Tasha's out of the bits of coutil I have lying around. Then it's just Fi's, but hers is last priority since it's not for the bridal group.

I think I might take a detour and make myself a shirt or something so I don't feel totally lazy. I would have bought a load of new fabric today but then a bus load of old women came in and occupied all 4 members of staff for the next hour, so I left and decided to go back tomorrow. Found some gorgeous crinkle velvet, deep bluey purple, that I'm going to make a jacket out of, and a few different cottons for shirts. And I've still got some I bought during our hot spell to make a skirt and shirt from, made the skirt but never hemmed it and the shirt pattern hasn't even come out the packet.

hmmm...ideas.

On the second day of working on my wedding dress, I've done hardly anything. Spent half the day trawling round town buying machine bulbs, embroidery thread, needles- you know, all the little things you forget to figure into your budget. So after finally getting home and down to work, I completed the flossing of the bones that are in, and began doing the embroidery on the front. So far I have only done one part, the left hand flap covering the busk. God I hate hand sewing, that's why I've done so little, I get bored and wander off. Not to mention having to stop every 10 minutes because of my husband-to-be walking through the room.  This is a pic of the corset currently, that shows the detail of he front embroidery. I have added facetted beads to he tips of the lines.

(what the hell is with the crappy images!!!???)

Anywho...I am now off to order more boning, since I have practically run out and still have 3 bridesmaids corsets to make. Ta Ta!!

I started work on my wedding dress today! It is a Victorian-enspired, but not exactly historically accurate, ensemble, comprising steel boned corset made from the Truly Victorian 1880s pattern, TV110, made from deep red upholstery velvet. For the skirt, I am using Simplicity 3885 cut off at the waist, in a lovely burgundy silk, with a seperate small overbustle of the same fabric. If I have some silk left over I also plan to make a long sleeved shrug top to wear over the corset, with silk body and lace sleeves.

This is my initial sketch:
